We are pleased to represent you the capital of Ukraine - Kyiv!
The world has other big cities that are older, bigger, richer, smarter and more
comfortable. But Kyiv is beautiful and unique in its own way. Having bunch of trees and
flowers it is always associated with chestnuts. Kyiv architectural landscape is unique.
Due to the huge number of orthodox churches it is called sometimes the Gold-Domed city.
Kiev stretched out more than 20 km alongshore of the biggest river of Ukraine - the
Dnipro and is one of the oldest Slavic centers, "the mother of all Russian cities" -
as poets said in old times; it is more than 1500 years old. The first settlements on
the territory of the modern Kiev appeared 15-20 thousand years ago.
The capital of modern Ukraine, the cultural center and the business activity core of
the country, according to the legend it was founded by three brothers Kiy, Scheck and
Horiv and their sister Lybid. They were amazed by the beauty of Dnipro Hills and
stopped to settle here; they named the city after the eldest brother Kiyv.
Today Kyiv has a population of 2.6 million people and occupies an area of 827 square
kilometers. Every day Kyiv receives numerous visitors, eager to see its shrines and
architectural ensembles, museums and parks, theatres and stadiums.
As the people say, there are seven wonders in Kyiv:
Golden Gate, Sophia Cathedral, Kiev Pechersk Lavra, Vladimir Cathedral, Kreshchatik
Ensemble, Andreyevsky Spusk, and the Gardens and Parks above the Dnipro.
We start our Kyiv Tour from the main triumphal entrance of ancient Kyiv - Golden
Gate. Its construction is mentioned in the chronicle for the year 1037. Was part of
the urban defense system created by Yaroslav the Wise and was destroyed during the
Tatar-Mongol raids.
Then you enjoy the city's oldest surviving church, St. Sophia's (Holy Wisdom)
Cathedral, dates from 1037. Also it'll be interesting to see evolution of Ukrainian
architecture, examining the 76-meter Bell Tower that was built in the 18th century.
Then we'll go across the reconstructed Mykhailivska Square, pass the monument to
Cyrill, Methodius, St. Andrew and Princess Olga and stop to enjoy wonderful sounds of
the bells of the reconstructed St. Michael's Cathedral. Our next stop - one the most
beautiful churches of Kyiv - St. Andrews Church. Then we'll go down the famous
Andriyivsky Uzviz, where you can find any kind of Ukrainian souvenirs, and you will
have the ability to see one of the oldest squares of Kyiv - the Kontraktova Square and
after that our car will take us to the Dnipro river bank to enjoy the unforgettable
view on the longest river of Ukraine.
After dinner in one of the national Ukrainian restaurants we'll walk around the
Kiev's most celebrated historic site - the Pecherska Lavra (or Monastery of the Caves).
Founded in 1051, the monastery covers 75 acres and comprises many churches, cathedrals,
bell towers (one which reaches to the highest point on the Kiev skyline), and monastic
cells. If you'd like we'll even go up to the Bell tower of the Pechersky Lavra and you
